The surgery has double benefits:
When to consider breast reduction
During the clinical examination, we will discuss all the advantages as well as any potential disadvantages openly and in detail.
After the breast reduction, your breasts will have the right proportions, will be harmonious with your body and will feel steadier and firmer. Your neck, back and shoulder pain will be relieved and your breath will be facilitated during exercise or sports which you were unable to take up in the past. You will definitely gain back your self-confidence and feel more beautiful.
We will also discuss the possibility of hypoesthesia, mainly in the nipple and in the areola, as well as issues related to breastfeeding.
How to know if you need breast reduction
The women who seek out breast reduction have already had children. Normally, they are overweight and have sensitivity to estrogens. Often, overly large breasts are the result of hereditary predisposition.
The following are some of the most common reasons why it would be good to consider the possibility of breast reduction:
How breast reduction is performed
Surgical breast reduction usually lasts 2-4 hours and is performed in an organized surgical center.
The operation usually involves three incisions. After I have removed excess breast tissue, fat and skin, the nipple-areola complex is raised to a higher position while the latter may be reduced in size. To improve the contour, a liposuction may also be conducted.
An important part of my role as a surgeon is to reduce the length of the scar, without sacrificing the aesthetic outcome.
There are several breast reduction techniques, depending on the case, but most of the times the inverted T (or anchor shape) breast reduction is the final choice.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation. An experienced anesthesiologist is present throughout the procedure to ensure maximum safety. The patient leaves the hospital the next day, wearing a sports bra. The scars are red and hard for the first 2-3 months. A Fraxel Laser treatment and silicone sheets are recommended for the healing phase to achieve the best possible healing, which is usually completed after 6-10 months.
There is considerable swelling for the first 5-7 days, while the final shape and feel of the breast usually become discernible in the first 3 weeks.
The patient can return to her work and daily activities after the first 5 days, and start exercising her upper body after 5 weeks. This is not a painful procedure despite involving relatively large incisions. Stitches are removed after three weeks and the bra has to be worn for 6 weeks.
My goal is to help you achieve the most beautiful and natural results, and to make your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible.
